Woah, Nellie.NET!

From my simple mind to… mine…

Apache2 Windows service wouldn’t start!

The Apache Windows service wouldn’t start on Windows startup. It would start at any other time. Looking in the event viewer, I found the error that Apache could not bind to the IP specified in the config file.

After some toil, the solution occurred to me in a “duh” moment.

My guess: My server’s on a wireless connection (it’s in another room from the wireless router and I didn’t want to run wires). The server picks up a dynamic IP from the DHCP server on the router. I think this happens after the wireless kicks. So when Apache attempts to start, it doesn’t have an IP and port to bind to…

Anyways, I made the IP on the server static, as it should be. The NIC retains this IP at all times, providing the proper IP for Apache to bind to.

Apache works great now.
