Off-topic: My unread mail using Newsgator Inbox for Outlook

leave a comment »

I’ve been using NewsGator Inbox for Outlook for sometime now. I love the product. Have a look at my unread mail view on the right. It’s awesome… I can just straight down the list of emails AND feeds and quickly knock them off using the Getting Things Done (GTD) methodology with the goal of Zero Email Bounce (ZEB).

Newsgator also synchs with the online version of Newsgator, but I have to say that actually using the online version has something left to be desired.

To make the feed reading effective, I download the entire contents of the post. This allows me to quickly glance the contents and pictures to make a decision as to whether to delete, read, or defer. As long as you stay up with your feed reading, this really shouldn’t be a concern. You can always create deletion rules on your feed folders just in case (delete old posts in 2 days, 2 weeks, etc) .

Note that Newsgator Inbox deletes a post from your local view within Outlook and NOT from Newsgator online. My guess is that all feed aggregators keep single copies of every blog post that people are subscribed to for efficiency reasons and simply allow you to view your subscribed posts.
